Shejuti Paul, MD

Dr. Shejuti Paul joins Fort Worth Renal Group as a nephrologist with additional fellowship training in critical care medicine. She earned her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 2020, having entered UAB’s competitive BS/MD Early Medical School Acceptance Program, one of ten students selected that year, after completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she graduated magna cum laude with degrees in Neuroscience, Philosophy, and Biology. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, followed by a Nephrology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where she served as Chief Fellow. She is completing an additional fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Cooper University Health Care in Camden, New Jersey, and is board eligible in Internal Medicine, Nephrology, and Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Paul’s clinical interests include the management of chronic kidney disease, dialysis care (including peritoneal dialysis), critical care nephrology, and the cardiovascular and mineral-bone complications of kidney disease. She has been an active researcher throughout her training, with peer-reviewed publications in journals including Clinical Kidney Journal, the American Heart Journal, and Kidney360, examining topics such as iron replacement therapy in chronic kidney disease and the cardiovascular effects of fibroblast growth factor 23. Her research has been recognized with the American Society of Nephrology’s Kidney Stars Travel Award and a National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) medical student research training grant, and she has presented her work at national meetings including ASN Kidney Week.

Beyond the clinic, Dr. Paul has a longstanding commitment to health equity and access. She currently mentors students in the Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program, organizing community health screenings for early detection of chronic kidney disease in West Philadelphia, and is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. As a medical student, she served as Executive Board Clinic Director of the Equal Access Birmingham Free Health Clinic, where she helped raise more than $140,000 to support care for uninsured patients, and she spent years volunteering as a crisis and suicide counselor in Birmingham, Alabama.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Paul is a published creative writer, with short stories and poetry featured in Sanctuary Literary Magazine, Aura Literary Arts Review, and Nelle Literary Arts Review, and an amateur painter whose work was selected for the University of Alabama School of Medicine’s art show. She enjoys cooking, reading, pottery, yoga, listening to podcasts, and traveling.
